Danny Corrigan decided to embrace the challenge of participating in Dry January to raise funds for our Neurology department at Queen’s Hospital.
He said: “Anybody who knows me, knows that I love a beer or two, however this year I’ll be doing ‘Dry January’ and donating what I would normally be spending in the pub to the Neurology department”.
With the support of family and friends, Danny raised an incredible £1,390 to thank staff for their care towards his wife, Emmajane Corrigan, who was diagnosed with a meningioma (a type of brain tumour) in February 2023.
This news completely rocked their world, especially with two children in the picture, they feared the worst. After another MRI, Emma had a consultation at Queen’s Hospital, and in April, the tumour removal procedure took place. Three days after surgery, Emma was discharged from the hospital, as home was the best place for her recovery.
“The operation was a success, and she is now fully recovered, and we cannot thank all the staff enough! Since her recovery, we have been given a new lease of life. We no longer take things for granted and try every new opportunity. I decided to do dry January to try and change my habits and raise awareness for this wonderful charity.”

He added: “Thank you for all your amazing work, from the volunteers to the head surgeons, you are all brilliant and do an amazing job often under difficult circumstances.”
Our charity is so pleased to know that Emma is now doing well! A big thank you to Danny and everyone who encouraged and supported you, you’re helping us to make our hospitals even better.
