Charity team

We are the official charity of Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) and we strive to improve the hospital experience for all. While the NHS provides funding for the necessities, such as medical equipment and patient requirements, our role is to fund projects that elevate the hospital experience for patients, staff, and families. We also recognise the service of our staff by providing additional facilities that allow them to focus on patient care.

Our charity vision

King George and Queen's Hospitals Charity is a local NHS Charity is a local NHS Charity supporting two local hospitals: King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen's Hospital in Romford. Our focus is clear - we work alongside and in support of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and the Trust's staff and clinical teams to make our hospitals even better for our patients, staff and families.

Our charity does not subsidise the core responsibilities of the NHS but we enhance the essential services provided by them to make the hospital journey the best it can be for everyone.

What we do

Our charity supports the local community by funding projects that benefit everyone. Whether you're a parent-to-be, have a sick child or are dealing with a life-threatening disease, our projects are designed to help you.

Our aim is simple – to make our hospitals better. We have funded life-saving equipment, improved our patient experience, helped sick and injured children through their treatment and ensured friends and family can stay close to their loved ones during a stay in hospital.

We rely on the generosity of our community to make our work possible, and every donation counts. Whether it's a small or large contribution, it can help us enhance patient and staff care. Your support is helping to improve local hospitals and the lives of those who depend on them. Together, we are making our hospitals even better!

Areas of funding

Our charitable donations fall into four categories:

  • Medical Equipment
  • Information and Technology
  • Comfort and the environment
  • Research and Training

We help transform tired, underused spaces into essential healing spaces to help patients and staff take a break from the busy hospital environment. We support our hospitals with tranquil spaces, like our Lavender Garden, giving our patients privacy for life-changing decisions and conversations.
